A/N: Written for lost_in_108 prompt #57 “devise”.


We can leave this place.

This is the lie they pass between them. It’s supposed to be a mutual comfort, but Eloise hates it. She plays along, listens to Richard’s plans until he falls asleep, his hand heavy on her waist until she leaves him to return to Charles.

The child moves inside her as she lies down beside the man who is not his father.

We’ll keep him safe this time. Richard’s words echo in her mind. More lies, more hopeful inventions of a condemned man.

She wishes Richard was right, but she has glimpsed their future.

She will leave.

He will stay.

Their son will die.

I love this pairing - and this prompt - so much. The imagery here is fantastic:
