Title: we laugh and we’ve got nothing left to lose
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers/Warnings: Through “The Incident”.
Disclaimer: These guys don’t belong to me…but I wouldn’t mind if they did.
Summary: Miles does Richard a favor, if you can call it that.
A/N: Title from the poem “Saying Your Names” by Richard Siken. Written for
lost_in_108 challenge #13 “gift”.
Richard watches as the boy examines the body. His eyes shut tight, his lips moving in a manner that could be mistaken for prayer if his features weren’t so grim. Richard sighs; Jacob never was any good at distinguishing between gifts and curses.
Miles straightens up, looking as apologetic as he can manage.
“Sorry man, looks like nobody’s home.”
Richard nods. He figured as much. Dead is dead after all, even (especially) if you’re a god.
“Thank you for trying.”
Miles shrugs as if it was nothing (as if there was no cost); Richard admires the boy’s resiliency.
“So we’re fucked then?”
Richard laughs.
“It would seem so.”

Date: 12/16/09 08:01 pm (UTC)Poor Jacob, he never fairs well in my fics...possibly because of my epic issues with him. ;)

Date: 12/16/09 08:04 pm (UTC)I just discovered Siken a couple of months ago and I've fallen so hard for his poetry. I have like a dozen of his lines on my "future titles" list. :D

Date: 12/16/09 09:00 pm (UTC)Well, it totally worked even if you didn't. :D
But I don't want Jacob to be dead. :(
This whole thing is amazing, but I especially love the end. Great work, bb! ♥

Date: 12/17/09 03:03 pm (UTC)I really love writing Richard and Miles together; I'm fascinated by the idea that Jacob may have given them both a "gift". One of these days I'm going to get around to writing that Miles/Richard epic that's been taking up brain space forever...
