Here’s the first batch of top fives. I jumped around a lot, but that’s just because I’m random. More to come later.

For [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders:

Top 5 favorite fannish moments where your fandom referenced another fandom. Only one Psych reference allowed.

Only one Psych reference you say?

1. Okay, fine. I’m just going to go with the season finale Hitchcock palooza. They referenced Lifeboat for pete’s sake! And Hitchcock is totally a fandom. At least in my world.

2. Chuck knows what happened to Flight 815.
It was shot down! Mystery solved. Oh nerdy Chuck writers, I love you so.

3. Supernatural: What would Buffy do?

4. Abed hits on Pete Campbell’s wife.

5. Sheldon knows Fox is evil. They made Firefly go away.
Murdoch is evil

Since I can’t embed that one, enjoy this Train Job/BBT crossover vid:

For [livejournal.com profile] arathesane:

Top 5 couples that should have been but never were cannon
1. Tim/Daisy, Spaced
Spaced is perfect as is, but there’s a part of me that would have loved a definitive we are going to ride off into the sunset moment for them…I guess that impromptu moment on the DVD set is kind of like that but I like my canon in the show, not the extras.

2. Sayid/Kate, Lost
As far as missed opportunities go this one’s a doozy as far as I’m concerned. They get each other, they work well together and he gives her balance in a way Jack and Sawyer never have. And there was hand kissing. Damn it show, I would have shipped that.

3. Dominic/Adelle, Dollhouse
Look up unrequited in the dictionary and you will see these two phenomenally screwed up, beautiful people looking back at you. I never knew power walking could have that much UST.

4. Remus/Sirius, Harry Potter
The greatest love story ever told entirely in subtext.

5. Buffy/Xander, BTVS
He always loved her, she loved him, and he wasn’t dead or into having sex on balconies or a lame super soldier from Iowa---I don’t care what those silly season eight comics say one of these days Buffy’s going to realize she’s a delicious cookie and her BFF is the guy waiting with a glass of milk. Or something like that.

Top 5 favorite individual uses of music on tv shows
*Massive Life on Mars spoiler right up front guys so click with caution.

1. Sam jumps as Bowie’s “Life on Mars” plays in the background. LOM.

2. Season one of Mad Men comes to a close with Don Draper sitting alone in his empty house as Bob Dylan plays us out.
clip

3. On Flashforward a bus sinks into the water as Bjork’s “Oh So Quiet” plays. This is how good this show could have been. It’s a shame really.

4. “All Along the Watchtower” in “Crossroads, pt. 2”, BSG. I can’t find a vid, but that whole ending was brilliant.

5. After one long summer of waiting we finally found out what was in the hatch. Spoiler alert: it involves Mama Cass.

For [livejournal.com profile] cantbesilent:

top 5 reasons it would be really upsetting if chuck didn't come back next season

1. Lost will be over. V and Flashforward are as good as dead. Dollhouse was cut down in its prime. SPN is getting too Biblical and lacks people with girl parts. We need somewhere to get our geek on!

2. If Chuck gets cancelled Adam Baldwin will be forced to go back to playing evil archeologists and rogue astrophysicists saving us from dinosaur and/or meteoroid apocalypses in crappy Sci-Fi movies that I will have no choice but to watch.

3. Where would I find new music? Bon Iver would probably have to break up and get jobs at Walmart.

4. Schwartz has already said he’s ending the season on a cliffhanger. The bastard.

5. If it ends they’ll probably continue it in comic form. And that never ends well (see the atrocity that is Buffy season eight).

Top 5 tv episodes that make you happy when skies are gray (any fandom)
1. Ted Koppel’s Big Night Out, GG
2. Tricia Tanaka is Dead, Lost
3. Initiation, The Office
4. Dopplegangland, BTVS
5. Crime Dog, Wonderfalls
Bonus: War Stories, Firefly cause I can’t leave it out.

Top 5 characters you wish were real and possibly your friend
1. Hurley (Lost), We would totally be BFF’s in real life. We’re both nerdy and love food. He’ll have to explain Star Wars to me though.
2. Liz Lemon (30 Rock)
3. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)
4. Paris Gellar (Gilmore Girls)
5. Olive Snook (Pushing Daisies)

Top 5 shipper moments of all time (all fandoms, ever).

1. Luke and Loralei kiss. And it’s perfect. And Kirk’s naked.

2. Mulder breaks down by Scully’s bedside in “Redux pt. 2”. Here have a schmoopy fanvid for the episode. Warning: watching Mulder cry may cause you to spontaneously hug your computer screen.

3. “Why don’t you tell me now?” This is the exact moment I fell in love with Sawyer/Juliet.

4. Jim professes his love to Pam on Casino Night.

5. The Doctor burns up a sun to say goodbye to Rose. I don’t even ship this anymore, but this scene always reminds me why I did.

Top 5 "omg wtf are you doing to my ship??" moments of all time
1. Diana frakking Fowley shows up, The X-Files
I wanted to punch Mulder every time he listened to a word that woman said. Even that adorable little chess playing kid could see he was breaking Scully’s heart.

2. Loralei wakes up in Christopher’s bed at the end of season six, GG
Oh God. That hurt in ways that I still can’t quite put into words. I didn’t ship anyone for a long time after that.

3. Carter & Bays try to turn Barney/Robin into Lily/Marshall 2.0
I’ve never seen a show so thoroughly sabotage a ship. It’s like they forgot how to write Barney and Robin. Or relationships that don’t involve brunch.

4. Namaste happens, Sawyer starts pining and Juliet starts giving up
In one episode I fell madly in love with S/J. Then half of the O6 fell out of the sky and everything immediately began falling apart. I should have gotten out then, but as Keamy (and Woody Allen) says, the heart wants what the heart wants. And this heart wants a happy ending for those two crazy kids.

5. The one-two punch of Wild at Heart & New Moon Rising, BTVS
Oh Oz, oh Willow. I can’t watch either of these episodes without an industrial size box of tissues nearby.

Really quickly, because I have 1,000 words to write right the frak now.

Remus/Sirius, Harry Potter
The greatest love story ever told entirely in subtext.

;)

Yes, yes, to the Lost and LoM scenes with music! And the BSG one, I think.

Loved Jamie on SPN (and the ep!). Mystery Spot is such a classic; it should be on my Top 5 list, too. Maybe 5x16 (though I think/hope this week's ep will give it a run for its money), 4x22, 5x03, with Faith and Mystery Spot as #4 and #5 (or #5 and #4). Yes, I'm a bit character-biased. ;) I also need to DVD-watch S2, asap. And I love the DODGE BALL!!! thing in After School Special. XD

1,000 words? I wish you happy writing. :D

The "Monster Movie" episode was so much fun. I almost put it on the list, but I couldn't decide which one to take off. It would be in a top ten though.

Heh. I sense a Castiel theme in your picks. ;)

I have such a soft spot for "After School Special", the Sam story is so moving. I think it hit me harder than any of the other episodes I've seen. Sammy is so tragic. It breaks my heart.

dude, this is a true statement. I get like, half of my new music from episodes of Chuck, they are always such great songs. If it went away my library would shrivel up and die.

I know, right? I can't remember how I found new music before Chuck. Oh wait, Grey's Anatomy used to be my source but then people started having ghost sex and doing deer operations so we had to break up. ;)

So many great moments here.I agree that Bjork song was used well in Flashforward. Loved Mama Cass and I hear any version of All Along the Watchtower without thinking of Starbuck and Apollo flying.

You pick good BFF!

Diana frakking Fowley

Grrrrrrr.

Jim and Pam in Casino Night is brilliant. "I'm sorry if I misinterpreted our friendship." just breaks my heart. Is The Initiation when Dwight takes Ryan to the beet farm? Oh Mose! "What is the Dharma Initiative?"

Date: 4/12/10 03:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ozmissage.livejournal.com
That scene in Flashforward was just beautifully constructed. It's such a shame that the show is mind-numbingly bad in every aspect aside from it's direction.

"Casino Night" is a perfect episode of television. It's wrenching and funny and romantic...just so freaking good.

Yep that's "The Initiation". It's hands down my favorite Office episode. I love Ryan and the combination of his storyline + pretzel day + that phone conversation between Jim and Pam at the end makes it my ultimate comfort food episode. :)

SPN Girls yay! But I'd have to scoot Pam on your list for playing grab ass with the boys. :D

Oh, Pam! I totally forgot about her. It's weird, I like pretty much all of the SPN women (aside from Ruby...well not!Ruby) they just don't stick around/stay alive long enough. :(

So I have to say the Firefly/TBBT ones take the win. The Sheldon/Rupert Murdoch moment is one of my favorites to begin with, but poor Summer Glau! l.m.a.o. And then Abed as Don Draper :D

Date: 4/12/10 10:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ozmissage.livejournal.com
Heh. Poor Summer. Whoever edited the vid made it look like she was taking one for the team and distracting the boys while Mal and Zoe did their thing. ;)

Abed as Don Draper is always going to be amazing.

Dude, so agreed on Kate/Sayid. From a Kate perspective I definitely like it better, and from a Sayid perspective... well, I never really understood Sayid/Shannon, so I would have picked Sayid/Kate for S1 for sure.

Clearly I need to rewatch Mad Men S1 cause I completely forgot Don't Think Twice, It's Alright was used in that finale. o_o That's only my favourite Bob Dylan song, so I'm ashamed I forgot about that. It was also used quite wonderfully on Friday Night Lights this season in a scene focused on my favourite character, so that made me quite happy.

Make Your Own Kind of Music! ♥

Gah, Wild at Heart/New Moon Rising. Knife stake in the heart. ;__;

You have excellent taste in SPN girls, my friend! God, Bela. What a BAMF. They need to bring her back like whoa. I don't care if she's evil or good or whatever, just bring her back. And, well, Jo is my girl, and there's no denying Ellen's awesomeness, so I wholeheartedly concur with those choices as well.

I never entirely got Sayid/Shannon either, but Kate and Sayid made so much sense in s1. I get flaily every time I watch the handkissing scene. True fact: I will gladly ship Sayid with pretty much any girl on the show. Or from any show. He's like my ultimate little black dress. ;)

I know this is like sacrilege, but I wasn't a Dylan fan until I heard the song on Mad Men and then I started listening to all of his music. It was kind of my introduction to Dylan.

FNL is one of those shows I've never seen. But I think the guy who does Parenthood created it right? He uses Dylan's "Forever Young" for the theme song.

I miss Bela so much! I wish they would find a way to bring her back, there was so much they could have done with her character.

Date: 4/16/10 05:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hopelessfangirl.livejournal.com
Don't worry about it. I didn't get into Dylan till late, either, and I still only have a Greatest Hits kind of knowledge of his stuff. I still have an aversion to his voice (for the most part), but his songwriting ability is unparalleled.

Yup, Jason Katims does FNL and Parenthood! He also did Roswell back in the day. But oh my gosh, I CANNOT recomment FNL enough! You really should watch it if you have the time for a new show, because it's abolutely brilliantly written and the acting is fantastic. Do not let the football thing deter you if you're worried about that, because I know jack squat about football (I'm Canadian and I barely know anything about hockey!), but the show is very much about the characters. Any time someone tells me they've never seen FNL I give this speech because it's just such a travesty that so few people watch it.

ETA: I don't know if you're aware, but there are Ghostfacers webisodes out now! They started yesterday and are supposed to run for 10 webisodes, I think. Here's a link to them on YouTube. They're also on the CW site (probably in better quality), if you want to check it out there instead.

I always feel bad when I tell people I just "discovered" Dylan a couple of years ago. I'm always slow when it comes to music though.

his songwriting ability is unparalleled.

GUH. I know, right?

I've been toying with the idea of watching FNL for awhile and I must admit it is the football thing that puts me off. I live right in the middle of football country, went to a football centric university, the whole shebang and I find it unspeakably boring in real life. However, I do have a soft spot for sports movies...I might add it to my list of stuff to check out this summer.

OMG GHOSTFACERS!!! Thank you so much for telling me, I have to go watch now. :D

I know what you mean. A lot of my favourite music (i.e.: 60s and 70s rock) I didn't discover till I graduated high school. I don't know what I was listening to before that! LOL.

Oh my gosh, seriously check out FNL. You will not be disappointed. Like I said, it's not so much about football as it is about a town obsessed with football and the lives of the characters who live there. I can think of about five of the 10 or 12 main castmembers that do not even have anything to do with the football team, so there's definitely more to the show than just sports. =) But at the same time, given the fact that you've been immersed in football culture, you'd probably relate to it more than I could. Here's one of those "Top 10 Reasons You Should Watch" picspams in case you need further convincing. ;)

Ooh, I love lists!

Sayid/Kate should have happened. I remember the very early days; I really thought that we would get a Jack/Kate/Sayid triangle.

"All Along the Watchtower" Oh, God. BSG is one freaking epic show.

Top 5 characters you wish were real and possibly your friend
4. Paris Gellar (Gilmore Girls)
5. Olive Snook (Pushing Daisies)

Agreed! ;)

Bela. Cassie. Jo and Ellen. Jamie. (How much did I love Jamie? Oh, my God. ;)) SPN has/had great female characters. If only they were better at keeping them. :/

Date: 4/18/10 08:52 pm (UTC)

I would have been over the moon if we had gotten a Jack/Kate/Sayid triangle. I remember in the beginning I thought Sawyer was going to be rather minor and possibly paired with Shannon.

Any time they used the song I get chills. I especially love when Kara plays it on the piano.

My biggest issue with SPN (and the thing that keeps me from being super invested in it) is it's serious lack of fleshing out/keeping it's female characters. It drives me crazy that they're only there for an episode or two and then poof they die or disappear. I like the brothers, but I swear I would have rather watched the Bela Talbot show...that's probably just my epic girl crush talking though. ;)
