Question for the flist: Do we know for certain that Miles was born in March? Lostpedia is insisting that it's so, but I kind of want to reject their reality and make my own. (Why yes I am working on a Miles fic, why do you ask?)

Also, man I've never listened to much Jazz, but I've been listening to some Miles Davis songs on youtube (research is fun!) and it's kind of awesome. Oh, and apparently Davis did this song called "A Night in Tunisia" with Charlie Parker. Lost is everywhere people.

(Completely unrelated, but "Torchwood: Children of Earth" starts on BBCAmerica tonight. I'm excited! Although, I'm sad that I can no longer call it The Owen Show. I have remained almost completely unspoiled thus far, fingers crossed that I make it until Friday without stumbling onto any spoilers. )

bah, am at work and am probably less useful than I should be.

if it's mentioned anywhere it's probably in the one flashback where he and his mother are getting the apartment? sorry I can't help more, though if Lostpedia doesn't cite, it's probably from a random interview that you can disregard :D

It's more likely April than March, and I'm basing that on the fact that when Hurley asks Pierre if he talks about work to his son, in Some Like It Hoth, Pierre's response is "I have a 3-month-old son, so, no, I haven't told him." Then in The Incident, which is the next day at the latest, Sawyer says that it's July 1977. So that would make April more likely, unless it's very early July when that scene takes place.

But I wouldn't necessarily take Lostpedia for gospel - it lists Hurley's date of birth as 1983 which is a blatant discrepancy - he's said that David left when he was 10, which would put that event in 1993. However, when David comes back right before Hurley goes to Australia, Carmen says "It's been seventeen years. I have needs." That would put David's departure as 1987, and that kid playing Hurley was clearly not 4 years old. So whoever changed that date to 1983 can't count!

So I'd say stuff it and give him whatever date of birth you want.

I completely forgot about that line in "Some Like it Hoth", that must be where they're getting the month from. This is why the season five dvds need to be out now.

Sigh. I'll just have to work around it. Thanks for the help! :)

As much as I love Miles, I had never tried to calculate when he was born (mostly because I couldn't figure out why Pierre said he was 3 months old when he was reading stories to a baby with better head control than a three month old generally has, which distracted me wondering if there was any particular reason the script couldn't have gone with 6 or 8 months old, since the baby still wouldn't remember anything about the Island). Hurrah for tellshannon815 for preventing me from wondering all night.

Here's to more Miles fic! And to enjoying his mother's inspiration!
