I never fully appreciated the value of pronouns until I started writing this fic. I will never take you for granted again. What am I doing writing slash? I have no business writing slash, there's no way this ends well.

*Sighs* I'm never going to finish this fic. The stupid boys won't stop talking. Stop talking! I need you to make with the smoochies so that I can move on with my life.

My apologies for the incoherent nature of this post, but writing is hard. Okay, I have to stop avoiding. Back to the trenches...

I just finished a very het fic where I was also like "oh, use name here, pronoun there, back to name, reference item, pronoun."

my obstacle is reusing verbs. *sigh* we will only get better though, right!?

I hope so. I keep writing sentences like, "he kissed him and trailed his hand down to his waist to unbuckle his belt" and then going even I don't understand that. Sigh. Happily, I think I'm done with the sexing now and I can get back to the plot. Oh, plot how I missed thee!

Pronouns in slash twist my brain into pretzel shapes. I'm working on my original novel tonight and it's like, Noah pulled away and dropped his head so that his hair fell into his eyes, shielding them from Jake’s gaze and Jake was glad, because that meant that Noah couldn’t see the burgeoning confusion there. Noah stood like that for a minute, and then he pusposefully pushed his hair back and faced Jake directly. “I need you to see,” he said, his voice suddenly decisive, brooking no argument. Jake stood quietly, watching him and waiting. I used proper names 7 times in a 70-something word paragraph. That's 10% of my words, dude! I used to love their names but now I'm soooooo sick of them. Het writers have it easy. *pouts*

Ooh, that sounds awesome though!
This is my very first slash fic and it's driving me a little crazy. This was so much easier when I was writing about Sawyer and Juliet. God, I could go entire paragraphs without mentioning either of their names, good times.

Haha, I can't even tell you how much I sympathize. I never really appreciated the serious grammatical difficulty of writing slash until I gave it a shot myself, and my admiration for those who write it well increased one-hundred-fold. :D

LOL! I feel your pain. My advice is - when in doubt, use a name. And read it over aloud. You always end up having to use names way more times than even seems possible. It probably feels awkward at first (I started out writing slash, so it's kind of second nature to me), but it'll get easier. :)
