"We are stuck in a bloody snowglobe!"

In my long and illustrious history with Lost no other season has so thoroughly tried my patience as much as season two did (not even season six.) Between the wonky characterizations, the back-burnering of my favorite characters, and the never-ending push the button debates I was a very mopey fangirl that year. Still despite my frustrations, I found a lot to love as well, namely one Mr. Desmond David Hume.
This list is heavy on mythology moments, tailies (well Eko and Ana), and Desmond. It was a rough year for the original castaways, it’s a good thing we had a hot Scotsman and a dude with a Jesus stick to keep us occupied. Clips and rambling under the cut.
My 25 Favorite Moments From Season Two
1. “I was wrong.”
After a year of debating, it was so rewarding to finally have an answer to the button conundrum. And to see the answer come from Locke who was all over the place emotionally in season two was perfect. O’Quinn’s delivery of that line gives me chills.
2. Jack and Desmond realize they’re connected.
I always love it when the castaways realize they’ve met or crossed paths before. Jack and Des’s realizations felt epic back then, but even more so now. “See ya in another life, Brother.”
3. “My name is Sayid Jarrah…”
“One of Them” is my all time favorite Sayid episode. He’s in so much pain and nobody plays pain like Naveen Andrews. This scene along with that beautiful pan down to the blood on his hands after the first time he tortures someone are brutal, dark, and heart wrenching---classic Sayid moments.
4. Hurley’s dream.
“Have a cluckity-cluck-cluck day, Hugo!” Heh.
5/6. Eko cuts off his beard/Claire’s heart to heart with Aaron.
I didn’t realize these two scenes were in the same episode until I went looking for them. Perhaps “Maternity Leave” is better than I remember it? Either way Eko’s admittance of guilt over killing two of the Others was incredibly graceful.
And the Claire scene? The best one she was ever given. I’ve had my issues with the character over the years, but her promising that she and Aaron will take care of each other is incredibly moving. And there’s a baby chewing on a sock.
*clips start at around 2:15.
7. Eko talks, Ana cries.
The tailies 48 days on craphole island make our castaways time look like a tropical vacation. There’s something powerful about seeing someone as strong as Ana break.
8. The map.
Because it was really freaking cool.
9/10. Pretty boys storm Des’s boat/Our Mutual Friend.
Hey, sometimes we have to be shallow. As for the OMF scene, it made me fall even more in love with Desmond that I already was and I didn’t think that was actually possible. So kudos to Darlton for proving me wrong.
*After the previouslies/6:24.
11. “You guys got any milk?”
I honestly can not imagine Lost without Emerson anymore. And this was the moment he proved he was indispensable going forward.
Ben being creepy
12. Hurley kicks Sawyer’s ass.
Has there ever been a more satisfying scene in all of this show’s history? Sawyer, bless him, needed his ass kicked that year and Hurley was the perfect guy to do it. I also love the expression on Jin’s face.
13/14. Jin/Sun post reunion sex/Kate blows up Wayne.
The thumbs up juxtaposed with Sayid burying Shannon. Nothing’s ever completely happy for these guys.
And then the ultimate badass Kate moment, blowing Wayne sky high and riding off into the distance on a motorcycle, yeah I was definitely satisfied by the answer to that particular mystery.
*Kate scene starts at 2:34.
15. Shannon sees Walt in the jungle.
Ghost Walt scared the hell out of me. I guess we’re never getting an answer about why he was “special”. Oh well, it was still cool.
16. Sarah wiggles her toes.
Fox and Bowen acted the hell out of this scene. And I have to give extra props to Fox for doing it with that thing that was supposed to be hair on his head.
*This clip is crazy long. The scene is towards the very end if you have the patience to wait for it. I barely did.
17. “The Lord is my shepherd…”
This is how you play faith. You put two deeply damaged believers in a scene together and give them some small comfort. It’s too bad the show forgot how to handle this sort of thing with subtlety.
When Charlie joins in the recitation I can’t help but get all teary.
18. Sawyer cons Cassidy.
Oh Sawyer, you really were a glorious bastard.
19. Rose knows Locke’s secret.
I’m not sure how Rose is so awesome all of the time, but she totally is. This is such a simple reveal, but it still manages to feel epic.
20. Charlie sings.
The only scene from this ep I care to remember. He just wanted to be loved, you know? *clings to Charlie*
21. Kate kisses Jack. Runs away.
Kate and Jack’s relationship is messy and completely screwed up and so much fun to watch. There’s something weirdly appropriate about the fact that she was crying the first time she kissed him.
22. Ana calls her mom.
Oh Ana. The idea that her mom went to that airport to pick up her daughter only to find out she was never coming home devastates me.
*2:20
23. Sayid tells Shannon he believes in her. Then she dies.
This scene is not on youtube. What’s up with that, universe? Still Shannon’s last moments with Sayid were lovely right up until she died. Then you got that absolutely terrifying expression on Sayid’s face. *shudders*
24. “We do it because we believe we were meant to.”
I was wrong yesterday, this may be the most important philosophical discussion in the history of Lost.
25. Jin sees Sun for the first time.
I can not find this clip and my memory is fuzzy, but I remember Sun wearing a red dress and Jin having a very bad day. It was awesome right? I remember it being awesome.
Bonus: The Orientation video & “Make Your Own Kind of Music” because it’s just not season two without these scenes.

Date: 5/18/10 06:49 pm (UTC)Locke's "I was wrong!" was classic. I think future season needed more humility of this kind.
Eko talks, Ana cries.
I forgot to put this on my Eko list!

Sniff. I hadn't thought of this. How sad!
I think Hurley's dream is one of my favourite all time moments. I'm a suck for well done freaky dreams.
I would add to this list Michael at the computer and seeing "Dad" typed in.

Date: 5/19/10 02:49 pm (UTC)It would be nice if we had been given a few more "I was wrong" moments. But our gang kind of fail at being humble.
Dream sequences are amazing, especially when they're well done.

Arg. I knew I was forgetting something important.
