They sit side by side on a beach that isn’t their beach, staring at an ocean that no longer looks like a prison.

“Were you there?”

Richard is a liar. (No. No. No.)

But he can not lie to him.

“Yes.”

Anger flickers across Miles’s face and Richard wonders if this is how he loses him. But as always, Miles is full of surprises. He laughs without bitterness.

“I guess it doesn’t matter anymore, does it? At least now I know why I’m a freak.”

“Is that enough?”

Miles leans back in the sand, closes his eyes.

“Yeah. Maybe.”

( No. No. No.)

Miles is a liar too.

This is brilliant, because I never thought of Jacob touching Miles, but now that you have it's blindingly obvious.

This is beautiful; I love how it showcases their similarities and differences. It's also kinda sweet. In a weird, "Jacob was here" kinda way.

Oh man, this drabble! What a phenomenal idea; I hadn't even considered it before but this is so cool. I love that his gift came from being "branded" by Jacob and that Richard knew. So fantastic.
